David Cameronճ green credentials have been dealt a severe blow after it was revealed his own Conservative council have bought a gas guzzling Bentley favoured by Premiership footballers. Council leaders, who are all members of Cameronճ local Conservative Association, approved buying the Bentley Continental Flying Spur to use as the Mayorճ official car. The 115,000 salon, which does just 10 miles to the gallon and weighs nearly two and a half tonnes, has been branded by green groups as үne of the roadճ biggest contributors to climate changeӮ The Conservative leader who lives in the borough is a member of the same association as the councillors who chose the car, favoured by footballers like David Beckham, England captain John Terry and Man Utd winger Ryan Giggs. He has sought to improve the Tory partyճ green credentials by cyclng to work and installing a wind turbine and solar panels on his new home. But his own friends on the council appear to have undone his good work with their choice of a Bentley to replace an old Rolls Royce as the mayorճ vehicle for official functions.
